In 1998, the USDA officially acknowledged the end of their product authorization program. In December, 1999, NSF (A globally recognized leader in standards development and product certification since 1944) launched the NSF Registration Program For Proprietary Substances and Nonfood Compounds. The NSF Program incorporates ingredients as listed in the FDA 21 CFR (Code of Federal Regulations). This program mirrors the prior USDA program evaluation for all product categories.
